This sculpture began as an study for a Platapus to capture the peculiar charm of the animal — an animal that already appears slightly absurd and somehow assembled from contradictions. Its exaggerated bill, webbed feet, and curved posture allowed me to push the form further toward humour and character.
I was interested in balancing playfulness with the weight and permanence traditionally associated with bronze sculpture. Mounted on marble, the figure takes on the presence of a monument despite its comic attitude. The work celebrates eccentricity, personality, and the expressive potential of animal forms without forcing them into a fixed narrative.
